Pad Thai (Stir-Fried Noodles)

Pad Thai is a popular Thai dish made with stir-fried noodles, tofu, and a variety of vegetables. It is flavorful, easy to make, and perfect for a quick and satisfying meal. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to make your own Pad Thai at home:

  • 8 ounces rice noodles
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup firm tofu, cut into small cubes
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup tamarind paste
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons chopped peanuts
  • 1 cup bean sprouts
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Lime wedges, for serving

  1. Soak the rice noodles in warm water for about 30 minutes, or until they are soft and pliable.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the tamarind paste, fish sauce, and brown sugar. Set aside.
  3. Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the vegetable oil and tofu, and stir-fry for about 2 minutes, or until the tofu is browned on all sides.
  4. Add the garlic and eggs to the wok, and stir-fry for an additional minute.
  5. Drain the rice noodles and add them to the wok. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, or until the noodles are hot and coated with the sauce.
  6. Add the tamarind sauce, bean sprouts, and green onions to the wok, and stir-fry for an additional minute.
  7. Transfer the Pad Thai to a serving dish and top with chopped peanuts. Serve with lime wedges on the side.

Tips and Variations

  • If you can’t find tamarind paste, you can substitute it with equal parts lemon juice and brown sugar.
  • For a protein boost, try adding some cooked chicken, shrimp, or beef to the stir-fry.
  • Feel free to add any other vegetables you have on hand, such as bell peppers, carrots, or bok choy.
  • If you like your Pad Thai extra spicy, add a few sliced Thai chilies or a spoonful of chili garlic sauce to the stir-fry.

Pad Thai is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a quick and satisfying meal. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of prep work, you can enjoy the flavors of Thailand in the comfort of your own home.
